concepts in the scope of the "paranormal".

the DPP uses a broad interpretation of the word and
many other researchers are bound to disagree with this.

technically, "paranormal" means:   physical, psychic, or
mental phenomena outside the range of the normal.

hence our broad interpretation.

here are some other terms you might find applicable to
a current or future situation:

apparition -- anything that appears unexpectedly or in
an extraordinary way.

aura -- an invisible emanation or vapor.  usually in
reference to a color surrounding an object.  auras are
often claimed to be seen by persons with psychic abilities,
but science offers an approach which incorporates the
possibility of auras actually existing as wave lengths of
light not visible to the human eye, such as infrared.

cryptozoology -- the study of animals that are rumored
or suspected to exist, but for which conclusive proof is
still missing; the term also includes the study of animals
considered to be extinct, but which are still reported.

electronic voice phenomena (EVP) -- voices or sounds
which, though inaudible to the human ear at the time of
recording, show up on the same recording when played
back at a later time.

ghost --  folklore:  a dead person's disembodied spirit or
soul, thought of as appearing to the living as a pale,
shadowy apparition.  a faint, shadowy semblance.  a
rememberance.  this term is applied broadly to many
phenomenan which exhibit paranormal characteristics

imprint -- a ghostly apparition, visual or aural, which is
apparently not interactive or self-aware.  a good way to
describe this type of haunting  is if one were viewing a
video tape on a loop;  it just repeats like a movie.

natural phenomena -- a light going on and off, or a toilet
flushing does not necessarily mean paranormal activity is
occurring.   magnets attracting a piece of iron must have
seemed like sorcery to early humans

phenomena   -- any event, circumstance, or experience which
is apparent to the senses and that can be scientifically
described or written about.  something unusual or strange.

poltergeist -- a kind of ghost thought to be responsible for
mysterious noisy disturbances.  usually associated with
interaction with physical objects, such as books or pictures
on the wall.  this type of paranormal activity is interactive
with the living and physical environment.  a poltergeist is
often linked to a specific person who is referred to by some as
an "agent" or "catalyst" for the activity.  some will argue
that if a poltergeist is not linked to a specific agent (person),
it is not poltergeist activity.
